Your fibre supplement

Why, how and when to use your fibre supplement

Taking a fibre supplement with your TDR products will help prevent constipation – one of the most common side effects of this kind of diet. We recommend you start taking 7g of fibre a day (spread across the day) from your first day of TDR. You should be able to stop taking the supplement at the end of 12 weeks when you start Phase 2.

Directions for use

See your TDR booklet for details – this was in your Welcome pack

Managing any discomfort or diarrhoea

If you have any unwanted discomfort or diarrhoea, please check the following before stopping taking the fibre supplement:

  1. Make sure that you’re taking only 7g in total every day
  2. Make sure that you’re spreading this out across the day – ideally in three separate doses about four hours apart (morning, midday, evening) – remember to drink extra fluid with each dose
  3. Try reducing your daily dose to half (3.5g) for a few days.

If there’s no change, then stop taking the supplement and inform your Coach and/or contact support@momentanewcastle.com for further guidance.

Phase 3: Reset packages

If you’re in Phase 3 and your weight creeps back to more than 2kg above your lowest weight on the programme you become eligible for some additional TDR product support called a ‘Reset package’.

You can discuss this with your Coach or one of our Advisers will contact you directly if we see your reported weight climbs back up.  You can only use a Reset Package once on the programme but it can be useful to help support the other changes you’re making to your lifestyle.

You can read more about the two options by downloading the documents below or clicking on this link to view them online.

Rapid weight loss and biliary disease (including gallstones)

This information sheet provides further information and options for those who may have a higher risk of biliary disease to enable an informed choice about whether to participate in the programme.  You can also discuss this with your GP practice.

  • ‘Biliary disease’ describes all the things that can go wrong with the gallbladder
  • Total diet replacement causes rapid weight loss which increases the chance that gallstones form and that any stones you already have are more likely to move about
  • Gallstones that move can get stuck in the tube between the gut and the gallbladder
  • Stuck stones can risk unpleasant pain, vomiting, infection and even, very rarely, death if the gallbladder bursts
  • You can avoid biliary disease by losing weight more slowly i.e. not joining the NHS Type 2 Diabetes Path to Remission Programme but seeking other ways to get support to lose weight. You can also discuss with your GP the possibility of a prescription medication to reduce the risk.
